About Us
Woodforest Sweet Shoppe was born from a passion for God, Family, and Food, In that order. Francis M Smith was from a small town in Central Mississippi named Noxapater. This was a small town that the residents loved, but the young people couldn’t wait to leave to experience the WORLD. After marriage Francis and her young family left the big Metropolis of Meridian Mississippi where they lived after moving from Noxapater for several yearsWoodforest Sweet Shoppe was founded out of a deep passion for God, family, and food— in that order. Francis M. Smith hailed from a small town in Central Mississippi called Noxapater. While the locals cherished their community, the young people were eager to leave and explore the world. After getting married, Francis and her young family moved from Noxapater to the bustling city of Meridian, Mississippi, where they lived for several years.
In 1970, they relocated to Houston, Texas. Fueled by her love for cooking and baking, Francis opened Woodforest Sweet Shoppe, surrounded by her family and friends from church—who, as we all know, are some of the best bakers around. Her daughter, Joanne, helped manage the bakery for many years, learning the art of decorating and running the shop. Likewise, her son, Titus, spent countless hours at the bakery throughout the years, developing a love for baking as well. Both Joanne and Titus continue to embrace this passion today, proudly passing down the family heritage of loving God, cherishing family, and enjoying great food. Francis Smith Passed away at a very young age in 1977.

The Marshall Era
With the Passing of the founder, Francis M Smith, Son in Law and Daughter of Francis, T.J & Joanne Marshall became owners and operators
TJ and Joanne had the business savvy and desire to continue the story that was started several years prior. When the Marshall family became owners due to the passing of Joanne’s Mother Francis, T.J. and Joanne had a small family with three children, Terry, Timothy, and Stephanie. They worked tirelessly at the bakery and taught their children the value of hard work. In 1980 The Marshalls followed their calling to the Philippine Islands where they became missionaries, the leasing and eventually selling of Woodforest Sweet Shoppe is how they were supported for 4 years. In the Philippines, the youngest child of TJ and Joanne was added to the family, Jessica Nichole Marshall, even though she was not around to see the bakery in action, the love and care for others were deeply ingrained in her and she is an accomplished baker in Pennsylvania. All of the Marshall family are involved in the Ministry with their church Organization.

Grandma’s Recipes
Grandma’s recipes were common around our home all of our lives, The wonderful aroma of pies baking, and warm cookies sitting on the counter waiting for us as we grabbed a tall glass of cold milk, are the memories we want to bring to your family.
Everything by Hand
It was the Love that Grandma put into everything that made all the time and fun with her, so very special. We may not remember the voice, the touch, or even the hugs she would give, when we began to bake she is with us. We are honored to share her with you.
